B. Gordon Jones went to be with the Lord peacefully on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 on the 36th anniversary of his marriage to Diane, who predeceased him by 4 months and with whom he shared a special relationship. Gordon was a loving and devoted husband to Barbara (Jones), the mother of his four children and then to Diane, the mother of four children as well. Gordon and Diane invested their lives in their mutual children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were always busy bringing meals and special treats, creating special memories and served outside of the family by volunteering, including hospice care. He was a sports enthusiast and followed the Ravens and the Orioles, even until the night of his passing. Gordon worked almost his entire career (42 years) at WBAL in Baltimore, serving as Comptroller for many years, where he was highly respected for his professionalism, integrity and caring ways. He worked for many years as a volunteer Treasurer for the Baltimore Rescue Mission, his church and also volunteered to provide free tax assistance for the elderly. He was known for his generosity, and he was quick to provide assistance when he became aware of needs he could address. He had a great sense of humor and loved to engage in fun exchanges with others, whether he knew them or not. His faith was the foundation of his life. His faith was more than just attending church. He lived it each day in the kind way he treated people. He loved to talk about the book he was reading and was an encouragement to all who knew him. We will miss “Poppy” immensely.
He is survived by his children, David Jones, Debbie Tatum, Rebecca Jones, and Daniel (Jennifer) Jones, as well as his stepsons, Bruce (Cassie) Dobson, Craig (Rebecca) Dobson, Mark Dobson, and Scott (Michele) Dobson. His surviving grandchildren are Julia Jones, Justin (Sydney) Jones, Angela Tatum, Elizabeth Tatum, Paul (Becca) Tatum, Whitney Tatum, Caroline (Brian) Emert, Anna Tatum, Joshua (Katherine) Tatum, Kelsey Jones, Maddie Dobson, Sean Dobson, Carlie (Chip) Brierre, Sara Dobson, and Adam Dobson, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings and grandsons Jared Jones and Anthony Jones.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Schimunek Funeral Home, 9705 Belair Road, Nottingham, MD 21236, on Sunday, August 20, 2023 from 4-7 pm. Further visitation will be on Monday, August 21, 2023 at 10:30 am, with a funeral service at 11am. Interment services are private.
