

On September 27, 2012, Billie Jean Ward, age 79, of Conowingo, MD. passed from this life into the heavenly home that she so longed to see. There she joyfully reunited with her loving husband, James Ward, her devoted mother, Gladys Nelson Compton, her beloved brother Bob Compton and nephew Michael Cain.
Billie is survived by her niece Terri Trzcinka and husband Michael as well as their two children Katelyn and Abigail of Conowingo, MD with whom she has lived for the past three years. She is also survived by her sister, Linda Cain and husband Ron of Baltimore, MD, her brother Ken Compton of Anthem, AZ, and many nieces and nephews.
Billie grew up in Newhall, West Virginia in a small coal mining community, working at the company store when she was old enough and being the first and only one in her family to graduate from high school. Soon after graduation she and her family moved to baltimore, MD where she began a career at Sears & Roebuck working for an optometrist. There she met her husband, Jim and a year later they were married, a marriage that lasted 55 years, until his passing. Billie retired early from Sears to take in and care for her niece, raising her like a daughter. She spent her life lovingly care for her family and volunteering for several organizations. She will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity to others.
