“There are only two ways to live your life. One is to live as if there are no miracles; the other is to live as if everything is a miracle.”
The miracle of her life began on August 21, 1932 in Laurel Maryland. She left this life, surrounded by family, on August 11, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Parkton, Maryland.
She left behind the miracles of three children, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was married to Lawrence Baumer on July 19, 1952. They remained married until his death on November 25, 1995.
Dorothy was born during the Great Depression, the oldest of eight children, and through her long life she successfully battled several bouts of tuberculosis, colon cancer and the severe injuries of a near fatal car crash.
Later in life, she embarked on a career as a baker with Giant Foods. She was renowned there for her cake decorating and customer relations.
Always artistic and creative, Dorothy painted, drew and taught classes in a variety of crafts. She was a dedicated genealogist and talented storyteller. Endlessly curious, she delighted in learning and sharing the stories she’d discovered about her ancestors.
“The idea is not to live forever but to create something that will.”
