It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Elizabeth “Liz” Lohrmann on August 3, 2025, Tinian Island, during a deployment in service to her nation. She was 45 years old. A woman of immense heart, unwavering dedication, and quiet strength, Liz touched the lives of all who knew her.
Born on August 3, 1980, in Baltimore, Maryland, Liz was the daughter of Michael G. “Mikey” Lohrmann and Carol M. (Ashburn) Lohrmann and sister of Nicole A. Lohrmann. Liz’s kindness touched the lives of many, both human and animal. She possessed a rare ability to find beauty in the world around her and lived each day with joy and gratitude.
Liz proudly served in the United States Air Force, in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, for 13 years, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. Her service was marked by dedication to her unit and her technical expertise. She was well known across the organization for her IT experience and willingness to help others. She served in multiple units within the 193d Special Operations Wing, to include the 271st Combat Communications Squadron, Wing Inspector General Office, 193d Special Operations Communications Squadron, and 201st Red Horse Squadron. Most recently Liz was proud to have the opportunity to deploy with her unit, a moment she had eagerly anticipated and approached with her characteristic enthusiasm and adventure-like spirit.
Beyond her military career, Liz was a dedicated professional in the field of integrated primary prevention. She excelled as a Command Advisor and Prevention Integrator at the Scranton Armed Forces Reserve Center in support of 55 Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, where she was known for her consistent uplifting presence, proactive and positive approach to relationship building and ability to foster collaborative learning and working environments wherever she was assigned. She was nominated for the National Guard Annual Integrated Primary Prevention Workforce Recognition award by her coworkers. While on deployment, she began taking her first graduate school course towards a Master of Social Work (MSW), focusing on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
But above all, Liz will be remembered for her selfless heart and unwavering generosity. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel seen, heard and welcome. She was deeply passionate about animal rights and welfare, yoga and mindfulness, and many social causes. She frequently volunteered at Whispering Rise Farm and Animal Sanctuary, various animal shelters, and wherever compassion and empathy are needed. She enthusiastically facilitated a Little Free Library and taught yoga classes at several locations.
She is survived by her husband Chris Schmidt, and children Lily Lohrman, and Julian Strawderman. And her special furry friends; Clara, Polly, Josie, Magpie, Caesar, and Pebble.
