On December 16, 2013, Helena Gabrielle Harrison; beloved daughter of George and Victoria Harrison (Nee Streett); devoted niece of Skip Streett, Jeffrey and Rebecca Streett, Jennifer Streett, Tracy and Gary Miller; cousin of Savannah and her son Cole, Cory and his wife Nicole, Tylor, Jill, Garrett and his fiancé Kristy; also survived by many loving great aunts, great uncles and cousins.Helena was a beautiful young woman, inside and out. Loving, bright, compassionate and sensitive, she brought a world of love, joy and happiness to everyone who knew her.
She had a deep appreciation of music and art, inheriting talent and a love of both from her maternal grandmother, Helen, for whom she was named. She loved movies, the more avant garde the better. She loved to travel and wanted to see her birthplace, Pensacola, again, and dreamed one day of living in New York or California. While attending CCBC part-time, she maintained a 4.0 average and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, National Honor Society. She had several part-time jobs and took pride in her volunteer activities at Franklin Square.
Helena had a dry, weirdly wonderful sense of humor, a quick wit, could make anyone laugh and found humor in everything. She loved animals and took excellent care of all her many pets. She was a loyal friend, and never said a bad word about anyone. She loved her family, her father and mother, and everyone adored her.
Helena loved the short animated film, "The Snowman," by Raymond Briggs, which she saw at the Meyerhoff with her Aunt Tracy, Savannah, Cole, and her mother, two short weeks before her death. Since she was about 6 years old, she and her mother watched this film together every year --- and every year, Helena would be overcome with emotion at the storyline and haunting music ... We're walking in the air, floating in the moonlit sky, holding very tight, riding in the midnight blue, finding I can fly so high above with you ... we're dancing in the midnight sky, and everyone who sees us greets us as we fly ... Helena would let herself cry tenderly and unashamedly at it's heartbreaking but life-affirming message, which she understood, even at an early age.
Helena made us fly.
She made us happy.
And she will be missed every day for the rest of our lives.
