The past few days have been tough for Shari.  She has been working on final paperwork for the mobile home and car titles.  It has been several trips to the DMV this week.  And we have slowly been cleaning out her parents' home.  We don't want things left in a vacant house, so we have cleared out a spot in out storage room and are bringing things here for safe keeping.  Any of you who know Shari, know how difficult it would be for Shari to go through her mom's jewelry or her dads music collection.  It is tearfully done.  And today we worked on her dad's shed.
This man was amazing.  EVERYTHING in his life was meticulous.  He would have made his boot camp drill sergeant proud.  His socks and underwear are painstakingly folded and neatly stacked in each drawer.  You could bounce a quarter on his bed spread.  The closest is carefully arranged from dark to light and evenly spaced with every garment facing the same direction.  His shed was no different.  Not a bit of dust or a cobweb to be seen.  The tool boxes were packed precisely like you might have seen from someone who was displaying a valuable collection of something.  Each item on a shelf was spaced just so and every box was labeled.  Even his hand drill had an eye hook tightened into the chuck so that it could be hung on a hook on the wall.  To a man's man, this was an awesome sight to behold; a tool man's haven.  
Shari had never been in his shed before.  But every item in there represented Dad to the T.  He grew up so very poor.  And everything he received in his life was earned with hard work, sweat and tears.  Because of this he valued things more than most.  Nothing was ever taken for granted.  Special care was taken for every item.  Even the least of things, like trash bags and rubber gloves, were treated with value.  There is a place for everything and everything is in its place.  Everything in his life was like this.  Even the scriptures that he had memorized were hidden away in his heart.  They were organized in such a way so that at just the time it was needed, he knew where to find it.  What a wonderful legacy and blessing it has been for me to witness.
I have cherished the moments I had with him.  I could not have asked for a better father-in-law.  Never did I hear a harsh word.  Everything was said in love.  That's who he was.
My mom passed a few years ago.  And Jim always seemed to call at just the right time.  He knew just what to say.  He had a connection with God like few people experience.  He was a wonderful encourager and I hope I can pass on what I have learned from him.  I am truly blessed to have called him family.  I am honored to have had him as a friend.  I will miss him, but I will see him again.  The best is yet to come…. 
I love you Jim.  Please give my mom a kiss for me and know that I will cherish the gift that God gave you for a daughter.  I will love her like you have.  I will care for her and protect her in a way that honors you, her and our Lord.  I will remember what I have seen, heard and known of you.  I will continue the harmony until we meet again….

It was a pleasure to know Jim, even though for a short time. He was the epitome of a gentle Christian man!

Daddy --- Today went much better than I expected.  There were so many wonderful people who dropped by to share their love.  But .. I sure do miss you alot. I miss our daily conversations already - most of the time we were just checking in to make sure that everything was o.k.  I will miss you calling me and singing happy birthday.  I will miss the laughter .. we did so many funny things together .. recreating lines from movies like The Pink Panther or hearing you tell the same jokes over and over and still laughing at all the same spots.  I most of all will miss your spiritual wisdom; how you always had the right scripture for the right situation.  You were an incredibly faithful servant of our Lord and I am sure you are enjoying all that heaven has in store for you .. although I wish I could get a small glimpse of how you are doing. I hope you are proud of what Deb and I are accomplishing in our lives as a continuance of your legacy.  Please know that Deb and I will take care of mom until she joins you and we will look out for each other too .. because you taught us that love and that love is for a lifetime. From the start of this journey, I have wanted to be with you every step of the way .. and mom wanted it that way too .. I just need Jesus to know how grateful I am for His kindness.  Well .. I guess I better "sign off for now" .. Until we see each other again .. Love you forever daddy .. Your little one

Daddy, I will miss deeply your rich words of wisdom pointing me to God's arms again and again...many times I have called just to hear you tell me the "old, old story"...but it thrills my heart to know that you are with our dear sweet Kellen celebrating the birthday of Jesus face to face and I long to be there with you some day...and to my beloved sister who journeyed with you on this hard road, I pray an extra touch from the Saviour to bring peace and comfort...I love you....it is well!!!
