John Frank Tolliver Jr, of Perry Hall, MD, passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday, April 2, 2020. Born February 23, 1930, near Somerset, Kentucky; he was the son of the late John F and Mary Tolliver Sr (nee Doss). He was raised in Tennessee by his late Aunt, Ann Tolliver. John joined the Army at 16 in 1946, stationed in Germany and England, serving in both the Korean War and Vietnam War. He retired from Army intelligence at Fort Holabird in Baltimore, MD in 1966 as a Sergeant First Class; after proudly serving our country for twenty years. He worked for Sears, Roebuck Co, for many years as a manager, retiring in 1986. John was the beloved husband to the late Elizabeth “Betty” Tolliver (nee Greif), with whom he argued over the thermostat for 68 years. He was a frequent visitor and member of the Perry Hall Senior Center, spending his time playing penny ante poker with his friends. John enjoyed watching Western movies, reading mysteries, and visiting with his family. He was the proud father to one son John Frank Tolliver III and his wife Leslie, and one daughter Joyce Elaine Lauenstein and her husband Douglas. Loving grandfather to John Michael Tolliver, Robert Matthew Tolliver, Kathleen Elizabeth Tolliver, Jessica Claire Lauenstein and her husband Andrew Halter, and Paige Victoria Lauenstein. John could frequently be heard talking about how proud he was of his children, and how lucky he was to have such a loving family.
