Ted Smith

Ted Smith, age 86, passed on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 in his home surrounded by his loved ones holding his hands. He was born January 15, 1936 and was 1 of 3 children. He made it past his ending time on this earth of 50 years old by 36 years, and we were blessed to have the additional time.

He was a loving husband of 52 years to Ann Smith. They prayed together every day for their 7 children, 12 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.

Family was most important. His legacy will carry on through his children, Michael Smith, Daphne Harrison, Carl Johnson, Diane Shea, Chris Johnson, Beth Webster and Dawn Seman.

Ted made his home in Glen Arm, MD, just a stone’s throw from his family home where he grew up. Besides husband and Dad, he was also a Baltimore Police Officer, an Air National Guardsman, and a machinist. He had such an amazing volunteer spirit and touched so many lives. He served as an Elder and Deacon at Fork Christian and Grandview Christian Churches, sang in choirs and quintets, served at TABCO leading worship, a member of the Girl Scouts, a camp manager at Indian Lake Christian Camp, a volunteer Angel at varies soup kitchens and food banks, and a volunteer for programs at Kingsville Recreation.

He started his own machine shop in 1971 in Highlandtown (Baltimore City) MD, partnering with the late Rudy Kratzmier and named the shop ARTI Machine. He worked until his health declined and closed the doors in 2007.

He enjoyed retirement singing hymns on his front porch, sending daily bible verses and Godly motivations via group texts, and being present for his family with as much unconditional love as anyone could possibly give.

Relatives and friends will gather at Schimunek Funeral Home, Inc., 9705 Belair Rd., Nottingham MD 21236, on Saturday, April 23, 2022, from 2:00-4:00 p.m., with a Memorial Service at 4:00 p.m.
