Ruth had very fond childhood memories growing up in Minnesota. Before she started kindergarten, she only spoke Swedish, and learned to speak English very quickly. When she was a child, the family did a lot of traveling on the railroad to Illinois, Michigan, and surrounding areas. As a young woman she became a skilled ice skater & tennis player. She also enjoyed summertime swimming in Lake Como.
When she was 21 years old, she visited her aunt in California, fell in love with the California sunshine and moved out west with a few of her ice skating friends. She settled first in Los Angeles and later moved to San Francisco, where she met her future husband, Orlando Brovelli. They married in 1956 in Carmel, California, and moved to Marinwood where they raised their daughters and made lifelong friendships. She returned to work when her daughters were raised, first at Social Security, Fort Baker, and finally retiring from the City of San Rafael Planning Department, where she had many fond memories of the friends she made there.
After retiring, Ruth enjoyed volunteer work, traveling, gardening & hiking. Well into her 70’s you would see her hiking with friends in West Marin, Mount Tamalpais, and around Marinwood visiting her friends. She is survived by her daughters Karen, Janet (Len), granddaughters Angelina & Christina, Sister Rosemary, sisters-in-law Charlotte & Adda, niece Suzanne (Mike), nephew Daniel (Linnea), 3 grandnieces and many cousins in Sweden. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Orlando, brother-in-law George, brothers Roy & Roger, and sister Renee.
At her request, services will be private. Those wishing to honor her may consider a donation to Hospice by the Bay, or their favorite charity. The family thanks the staff at Golden Home and Drake Terrace for their kind and compassionate care.
