Vince was born in San Francisco, CA to Joe and Maggie (Tringali) Caramagno. He grew up in a large extended Sicilian family and there was never a lack of big family dinners. He would often run errands for his uncles for a nickel. He played baseball as a kid and it turned out to be his passion. He attended Commerce High School and graduated in 1948. After graduation, he pursued baseball and played for the Brooklyn Dodgers AAA team. In 1952 he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed at Treasure Island. Being close to home, he never stayed a night in the barracks, rather went back and forth to his parent’s home. He was honorably discharged in 1955.
He met the love of his life; Nancy Eidson in 1955 and they were married October 22, 1956 in Sparks, Nevada. In 1958 he began working at the Oroweat Baking Company delivering bread in San Francisco. He transferred and moved the family to Novato in 1965, working out of the depot in San Rafael where he worked until his retirement in 1991.
Vince attended all of his three son’s sporting events and was the official score/timekeeper for the San Marin High School basketball games for 25 years. He was a member of the booster club and raised money to support the school.
In 1976, Vince joined a Racquetball Club in Novato and became obsessed with the sport. He traveled around the country attending tournaments and for several years was the number 1 player in the over 55 division in California. In 1993, he retired from playing as the sport became a little too demanding on his body. At that time he worked at the Petaluma Valley Athletic Club where he was a fixture there until it’s closing in 2017. All who knew Vinnie adored him as he has such a caring and loving relationship with everyone he met.
Vince was a huge sports fanatic and rooted for all teams local, especially the Warriors. He never missed a game and was their biggest critic. He was also obsessed with his grandsons year around sporting events where he could be seen in the stands at every game no matter what. He was the definition of a proud grandfather.
He had a speech for every occasion – family dinner, party or event. His kind hearted words resonated with all in attendance. He made every occasion special and often had small gifts to make his guests feel loved. His corny jokes, quick wit and warm smile will be missed by all those who knew him.
Vince is survived by his wife Nancy of 67 years, his sister Carmel (Hutch) Hutchinson, his son’s Brad (Linda), Matthew (Linda), Raymond Caramagno, his three Grandchildren; Briana (Nick), Nicolas and Andrew (Michelle) and four Great-Grandchildren; Lucas, Zoey, Kami and Lydia as well as his nieces and nephews.
