

Walter (Walt) Christensen Walt was born on December 25, 1932 in Whitefish, Montana and passed away December 6, 2011 in San Rafael. He was one of eight children of Walter E. and Mary Christensen. Walt grew up in the Flathead Valley of Montana and later served in the U.S. Army. He briefly taught golf in San Francisco and later became a carpenter and a proud member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters for 37 years. During his lifetime, he enjoyed salmon fishing, golfing, camping, traveling and gardening. He was active in his children's activities, and enjoyed participating in the Y Indian guide program, being a swim meet director and officiating at USA swimming meets. He was always ready to volunteer. Walt was an active member of the Marin Rod and Gun Club and the Miwok branch of the Sons in Retirement (SIRS) acting as golf chairman for four years. He really enjoyed being involved in these activities. Walt is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sandy, and his two children Steven Christensen (Krysti) and Julie Pettijohn (Garth). He also enjoyed time spent with his four grandchildren: Camden and Lauren Pettijohn, and Logan and Kylie Christensen. Being with his family was his greatest joy. He is also survived by his brothers Everett and Keith Christensen and their spouses, also numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services to be held on Friday, December 16, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Keaton's Redwood Chapel of Marin, 1801 Novato Blvd., Novato. Walt's family would like to express a sincere thank you to his friends for the outpouring of support and love during Walt's battle with cancer, and later heart disease. Next to his family, Walt's friends were his greatest treasure.
