Marie Murdock died peacefully at her Harbour Pointe Retirement residence on February 4, 2013, in Mukilteo, Washington. She lived a wonderful Christian life during her 90 years. She was born in Wheeling, Illinois to Marie and Peter Van Dyke. She had three sisters, Anne, Irene, and Tina, and two brothers, Harry and Peter who preceded her in death.
She married Joseph Murdock on October 24, 1942. Marie and Joe lived most of their married life in Illinois. Marie worked as a bookkeeper for General Telephone so that she could send her sons to college. In 1987 they moved to Whidbey Island to reside in Freeland.
Marie and Joe were members of the Oak Harbor Christian Reformed Church. Joe died in 1997, and Marie moved to Mukilteo in 2005. She has been a resident of Harbour Pointe Retirement and Assisted Living Center for eight years.
Survivors include daughter–in-law, Judith Murdock of Mukilteo, WA; two grandchildren, Mark Murdock and wife Nona of Lynnwood, WA and Jennifer Murdock Jacoway and husband Pierce of Castle Rock, CO; three great-grandchildren, Conner and Parker Murdock, and Cooper Jacoway.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, and her sons, Bruce and Philip.
Marie will always be remembered for her ability to play the piano by ear. If you named a song, Marie could play it. She also loved playing cards, eating chocolate and ice cream, even for dinner! Marie loved her family, her friends, and living life! She will be fondly remembered.
A grave side service will be held at Sunnyside Cemetery in Coupeville on February 15, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. Arrangements by Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
