Pauline Marker

Pauline Marker, 89, passed away December 16, 2011, in Coupeville, WA, after a long struggle with multiple health issues. She was born June 18, 1922 in Mt Vernon, Posey, Indiana, the third of four children to Earl C. Hungate and Jessie B. Allyn Hungate.

She became a Navy wife to Edward Laughridge, married in Seattle, WA in 1946. They were once stationed in Adak, Alaska where as always, she managed to make a comfy home while using her great talents of sewing and decorating as she always was a very organized person. After Ed’s retirement, they settled in National City, CA. Sadly, Ed passed away after only 14 years of marriage. Pauline then moved back to Santa Cruz, CA where she grew up. She worked as a Desk Clerk at Santa Cruz Community Hospital and later went to work at Children’s Hospital in Palo Alta, CA. She then married her second husband, Harold R. Marker. In time they both started managing motels and moved to Richland WA and then Seattle, WA.

They retired in Auburn, Wa and after a while moved to Oak Harbor, WA into Summerhill Retirement Community so they could live closer to her daughter Loretta Vogt and family. Sadly, in 2000, Harold passed on. Pauline continued living at Summerhill and loved to sew her own cloths and working crossword puzzles. She had many friends at Summerhill that she enjoyed visiting and loved being with her large extended family.

Those who preceded her in death are: her parents, siblings, husbands, Edward Laughridge and Harold R. Marker, granddaughter, Victoria L. Fleming of Kent, Wa, step children, Raymond Marker, Harold R. Marker Jr., step granddaughter, Karin L. Vogt of Pamona, CA.

Pauline is survived by her extended family as well as her one child, Loretta L. Vogt and son-in-law Bob Vogt of Oak Harbor, WA, step children, David Marker of Modesto, CA, Mary Kohme of Turlock, CA, Shirley Marker of CA and Bobby Marker of CA.

Surviving grandchildren: Robert C. Powers of Caldwell, ID, Laurence O. Powers of Oak Harbor, WA, Robert G. Vogt of Bend, OR, Cheri Hollibaugh of Bend, OR, Marlys Lindsay of Imperial Beach, CA, Myra Hardie of Turlock, CA, Holly Kamo of CA, Eric Marker of Philadelphia, PA, and Brian Marker of Oceanside, CA.

Surviving great grandchildren: Autumn Rogers of Beverton, OR, John Justin Lancaster of Olympia, WA, Mattie M. Powers of Bellingham, WA, Megan Stump of Oak Harbor, WA, Carissa Hardie, Ashley Hardie, Theda Hardie all of Turlock, CA and Katherine Marker of Oceanside, CA.
