Ruby Lee Calhoun was born in Louisville, Mississippi on February 8, 1944 to Maudell Jones and the late Joe Norton. As a young lady, she was always soft-spoken, carrying herself with dignity and pride. After many years in Mississippi, Ruby eventually settled in Chicago, IL.
On December 24, 1966 Ruby married her love, Bradie Calhoun, Sr. Two children resulted from this union – Bradie, Jr. and Deborah. Throughout their life together Ruby always did whatever it took to keep everyone happy. She was never a selfish person, always helping her children and grandchildren. Whenever things were rough, Ruby could be counted on to make everything alright – turn a frown into a smile.
Ruby had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. Her oldest grandchild, Dion Henderson, Jr. she affectionately referred to as “Boozie”. Her youngest grandson Isaac Calhoun brought a huge smile to her face. She always had something special for her grandbabies.
Ruby made her transition on March 12, 2011 to the serenity of God’s arms. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband Bradie, Sr., her mother Maudell Jones, two children ~ Bradie, Jr. (Angela) and Deborah (Dion), two grandchildren, Dion, Jr. and Isaac, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
