Shirley M. Heft, age 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 10, 2026. She is survived by her loving children: Don Southard, Jr., Wendy (Bob) Morrissey and Kenneth Heft (Megan); beloved grandchildren: Bobby (Mary) Morrissey, Matt (Lizzie) Morrissey and Johnny Morrissey; cherished great grandchildren: Theo Morrissey, Anna Morrissey, Charlie Morrissey and Graham Morrissey; dear sisters: Josie Nordhaus and Cookie (Michael) Oprondek. Shirley is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Preceded in death by her parents: Jose and Juanita Mena; husband, Howard H. Heft and siblings: Lupe, Pauly, Joey, Jessie, Mercy (John) and Mary.
Shirley cherished her time with family, especially her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, who brought her endless joy. She had a passion for movies, particularly horror films that kept her on the edge of her seat. She also loved shopping, whether browsing for treasures or simply enjoying a day out with loved ones. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life and inurnment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery will be held at a later date. Chapel Hill Gardens South Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements. For information, please call 708-636-1200.
