William Johnsen was born on January 26, 1938 and passed away on December 30, 2025 surrounded by the love of his family. He was the devoted spouse of June (Abbenga) for 68 wonderful years, a partnership built on love, commitment, and shared memories.
William was a proud and loving father to Jon (Karen), Susan (the late Joseph), and Mark (the late Larry Branigan). He found great joy in his role as grandfather to Nicholas, Rachel, Amanda, and the late Rebecca, and as great-grandfather to Dawsen and Everett.
For more than 25 years, William worked in sales, where his strong work ethic served him well. Outside of his career, he lived a full and active life. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards, and cooking, but some of his favorite moments were spent on the many camping trips he shared with his family over the years.
William had a true passion for woodworking and took great pride in creating special furniture pieces for his children, including a cherished rocking horse for his grandchildren. He also enjoyed refurbishing old cars, a hobby that reflected his patience, skill, and appreciation for craftsmanship. Above all, William had a deep love for his dogs, who were constant and beloved companions.
William also looked forward each year to the annual cruises he and June took together, a tradition he loved dearly. These trips were a highlight of his life, offering time to relax, explore, and celebrate their enduring love and companionship.
William will be remembered for his dedication to family, his many talents, and the quiet ways he showed his love. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the memories he created with those who loved him most.
A Memorial Service for William will take place on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 10am at Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd at 7800 S. McCarthy Road, Palos Heights 60463.
