Gordon Crombie

Gordon R. Crombie age 76 beloved husband and best friend of 50 years of Kathryn nee Kraemer. Preceded in death by his parents the late James and Helen Crombie. Dearest brother- in- law of Margaret and Dean Olson and Aldene and Robert Bond. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Gordon was a person who loved being with people and had a wide range of interests including baseball parks, geography, maps, space programs, 20th century war history and bagpipes. Gordon's parents were both born in Scotland. His father was at one time Pipe Major of the Chicago Highlanders Pipe Band and Gordon acquired his love for the bagpipes from his father. For over fifty years Gordon devoted a large part of his free time to encouraging and teaching others to play the pipes. Gordon played for all types of events but especially enjoyed playing for The British Home in Brookfield, The Scottish Home in North Riverside and all branches of the military. Gordon was a member of The Stockyard Kilty Band for 23 years and was currently Pipe Major of The Rampant Lion Pipe Band. Visitation will be held on Sunday 3pm to 9pm at Chapel Hill Gardens West Funeral Home, 17W 201 Roosevelt Road, Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. Gordon will lie in state at Yorkfield Presbyterian Church, 1099 S. York Road, Elmhurst, Illinois from 9am to 10am. Funeral Services will be following at 10:00am.
