

Jean Alice (Paxson) Griggs was born in Chicago on April 9, 1930, and passed away in Chicago on June 8, 2020. Jean was the youngest of twelve children (two of whom died as infants.) Jean's father was Oliver Evan Paxson, Sr. and her mother Bertha Mae (Simpson) Paxson. Jean’s parents and all of her siblings predeceased her.
Jean graduated from Hirsch High School on Chicago’s southside in 1948. Jean was an excellent student who was active in high school choruses as well as many school plays. She continued to develop her talents after high school by singing and acting in community plays and concerts. Jean's first jobs were at Chicago’s WBBM radio and the early WBBM television station.
Jean married Frank G. Mingay in Chicago on August 27, 1953. Soon after their wedding, Jean and Frank left for Switzerland where Mr. Mingay was employed. Jean lived most of her adult life overseas with husband Frank Mingay, and then with Northam “Lee” Griggs who Jean married in 1967 in Brookline, Massachusetts. Lee, who died in 2002, was a correspondent for Time-Life, Inc. Lee was assigned to posts from Beirut, Lebanon to Johannesburg, South Africa in addition to many other site-specific assignments all over the world.
Jean returned to Chicago for the final years of her life where she was close to her two older sisters, Constance Paxson and Virginia Paxson. Jean will be missed by her sixteen adult nieces and nephews, many of whom live in the Chicago area and visited Jean often. Jean will also be missed by her special friends Ted and Marsha Rodes, and their German Shorthair Pointer, Zeus.

Paxson of Machesney Park, Illinois; Martin C. Paxson of Tinley Park, Illinois; Reid M. Paxson of Plainfield, Illinois; Richard S. Paxson of Mason City, Iowa; Robert A. Paxson of Woodridge, Illinois; Ronald J. Paxson of Minocqua, Wisconsin; Thomas E. Paxson of Orland Park, Illinois; William E. Paxson of Cypress, Texas; Nancy L. Stodghill of Louisville, Kentucky; and Alice M. Williams of Opelika, Alabama.
