Marika Mitsos (nee Kodelas), 94, of Oak Brook, IL, died peacefully in her home on January 14, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 12, 1928 in Astros, Greece. Before the age of five, she dreamt of going to America, and by 1951, realized her dream. Within just a couple of weeks upon her arrival, she found a job at Simpson's Clothing Manufacturing. She lived for many years in Oak Park and Lombard, prior to moving to Oak Brook. Beloved wife for 49 happy years of Constantine; loving mother of Sophia, Nicholas, and Patrice; daughter of the late Demetre and Panayiota, nee Galanes. Predeceased by her brother George, sister Nicoletta, brother Louis, and sister Connie, who died as an infant. Marika had so many talents, but she was primarily known as a professional dressmaker who started studying her craft in Greece at the age of 14. A highly skilled and very talented professional by the age of 18 and throughout much of her adult life, Marika was an artist with fabric and a sewing machine. For clients and her daughters alike, she designed beautifully tailored coats, dresses, suits, jackets, slacks, blouses, costumes and ballroom outfits as well as exquisite wedding gowns and bridal party dresses, many times with no pattern. Her gifted hands so meticulously tailored every single one of her creations to a perfect fit for anyone fortunate enough to experience her craftwork. She was the personification of love, strength, kindness, dignity and compassion. Rest in peace, our precious sweet angel mother. May angels sing while welcoming you with open arms as you soar into Heaven. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 23, at 9:30am until time of funeral service 10:00am at Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church, 2501 S. Wolf Rd., Westchester. Interment Elmwood Cemetery.
