I am really sad to hear that your husband, Milan, passed away.
Please accept my sincerest condolences.
I cannot forget that I played with Milan on stage in Honolulu.
I can imagine how sad you must be feeling.
Maya san, take good care of yourself.

We would like to offer Milan the “Hato sable”  which he said was his favorite pastry in the world.

Milan was a great friend and also a great mentor who was always kind to us.

It is with the heaviest heart I write this. I just got a friend invite from Milan a few months ago.
He and I both had the same courses at Columbia College. He would drive me to different 
recording studios for classes and we would study together. I was so pleased to get back
in touch with him. I remember when he got his first job a Tanglwood studios in Chicago.
We had a few classes their he was so proud of that time. I followed up by getting a job 
at Chicago Recording Company. I am so happy to have gotten back with my old friend
if just for short while. RIP you will be missed.

 I remember all the fun times we had many years back in Cicero. When everyone lived near each other, and we had band practices in Milan's parents house (basement). 
 We played a few gigs at Columbia College, and these were exciting and great experiences, to me. Maybe it was 1979-80. After which we had the Crosstown band which lasted until Milan went to Hawaii ('87 I think). 
 Crazy, enjoyable years with lots of laughing and conversation, and music as well. 

 I am shocked by this news. 
He did what he wanted to do in many ways, and that is a proper way to live ones life. 

 

I am saddened by the passing of my friend Milan Bertosa.   Milan and I played in numerous bands together in high school and college and while most of us left music to find “real” jobs, Milan remained in the industry and went on to become a sound engineering icon from his studio in Hawaii.   I recall one day many years ago listening to NPR and hearing the story behind the international mega hit “Over the Rainbow” by Hawaiian musician Iz.  The voice of the engineer that NPR was interviewing sounded familiar, and then the host repeated his name, Milan Bertosa.   I realized that the program was focused on Milan’s work behind the glass that brought so much magic to the world.   Milan had made it to the big time and worked with countless talented musicians over the span of his career.   I am proud that I got to play music with him, even if it was just a high school garage band or a bar band…I saw his extraordinary talent when it came to sound management.   Even way back then, when we were all just kids and wanna be rock stars, Milan had something we all recognized.  He had a gifted ear…and a musical grace that the rest of us could never learn.  Milan was simply born with it…While I have not seen him in many years, I will miss him.

My sincere condolences to his family, I hope that you will find peace in the fact that Milan had such an impact on so many lives.   I was proud of him, even if I never had the chance to tell him in person.  He was truly remarkable.
