Peter Michael Sfikas

Sfikas, Peter M. age 77 of Hinsdale, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 6, 2014. He was the son of the late Michael and Helen nee (Thureanus)Sfikas born on August 9, 1937. Beloved husband of 48 years of Freida (nee Platon) Sfikas, loving father of Ellen (Zoltan) Koppany, Pamela Sfikas, and Sandra (Freddie) Wolner, Proud Papa of grandsons PJ Koppany, Nicholas, Charlie and Jacob Wolner, and cherished brother of Esther Anthos and uncle and godfather to Mark Anthos. Uncle and cousin to many who will miss him dearly. Peter was a lawyer and educator for 52 years. He graduated from Indiana University in 1959 and Northwestern University School of Law in 1962 where he was also a member of the bar review. He worked as an attorney for the Legal Aid Bureau of Chicago, he was a partner at both Peterson and Ross and Bell, Boyd and Lloyd as well as serving as the Chief Counsel and associate executive director of the American Dental Association. He was General Counsel for the Chicago Dental Society, a certified arbitrator and mediator for the Circuit Court of Cook County, Village Prosecutor for the village of La Grange Park, and was an adjunct professor at Loyola University School of Law. He is a former recipient of the prestigious Maurice Wiegle Award and was named as a Super Lawyer by Chicago Magazine. He also served as the president of the Northwestern University School of Law Alumni Association. He was proud to serve as the Parish council president at Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Northwestern University Football and Indiana University Basketball. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church or the Christopher Reeves Foundation. Funeral Service will be Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church(2501 S. Wolf Rd. Westchester, Il at 10:00 A.M.
