Irmgard was better known as Oma or Omi to most. She and her husband were the pioneers of our family. They along with their oldest son, started their own new adventure. They moved from Germany to the United States in 1957, not knowing the language and with having only 1 distant relative in the US to sponsor them. They began to work and become part of this society. Irmgard learned to speak English from soap operas and the comics in the newspaper. They were such proud young adults’, that they began their commitment to this country by attending night school, learning the language and government to become citizens. They became citizens as soon as they were eligible. And there it began.
She has been a resident of Coarsegold, CA for the last 16 years, and resided in Indiana for 50 years prior.
She went to be with the Lord and many others on October 4, 2022, peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her children. Her lifelong relationship with the Evangelical Lutheran church, (Missouri Synod), providing for her steadfast faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, allowed her to pass calmly and comfortably to her heavenly home.
She was born in Mainz, Germany on October 19th, 1930.
She enjoyed time with family, traveling, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, sewing and always a good mystery show on PBS. Irmgard had many friends from all over the world. She’ll be greatly missed and remembered by all of them.
She worked in retail for many years after her children were grown. She was fantastic with people because she was always knowledgeable, friendly, and her strong German accent didn’t hurt either. She truly loved her jobs.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Wilhelm Schick of 60 years. Sister, Gisela Eisenmueller of Germany and her brother, Norbert Riese of Germany.
She is survived by her 3 children; Sons, Bodo Schick and wife Kathleen of Indianapolis, IN. Michael Schick and wife Teresa of Gahanna, OH. Daughter, Michele Schick-Schatzle and husband Ken of Coarsegold, CA.
