George Michael Chinnici

George Michael Chinnici, 87, of The Villages, FL, passed away on August 22, 2017. George was born to Peter and Madeline Chinnici on August 30, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY. He married Gerry Astor in New York City on February 15, 1964. George proudly served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 and saw combat in Korea. George worked as an independent painting contractor for many years.

George was a skilled athlete. He especially enjoyed and excelled at golf and bowling. He golfed his age many times, shot several holes-in-one and won numerous prestigious bowling tournaments with his teams. He was also a wonderful teacher; if you wanted to improve your game, George was the one to see. George and Gerry enjoyed traveling and explored many states and countries on four continents. But more than anything, George was known as a kind-hearted man who was funny, patient, loving, and always happy to help.

George is survived by Gerry Chinnici, his wife of 53 years; sister Stephanie; children Lauren and Andy Astor. “Papa Georgie” was especially beloved by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Ocala FL on Saturday August 26 2017 at 1:00pm. George will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Ocala, FL. Memorial Contributions may be considered to Alzheimer’s Association.
