Veta Mae "Pete" Jackson

Veta Mae “Pete” Ward Jackson passed away on February 22, 2016 in Ocala, Florida. Mrs. Jackson was a native Floridian, born in Alachua County and was the sixth child in a family of ten. She was born to David Cleveland and Lucinda Ward and raised in Cross City, Florida. She moved to Ocala in 1954 from Jacksonville, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Morris Jackson.

Mrs. Jackson was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ocala and was active in many phases of the church. She was an Elder of the church and was active in Presbyterian Women and was presented the Honorary Life Membership award.

She was active in many civic organizations which included Eighth Street PTA, Pioneer Garden Club, Beta Sigma Psi Sorority, Cub Scout Den Mother and other organizations. During her working years she worked as payroll clerk for Civil Service, Insurance companies in Gainesville and Jacksonville, Florida and Birmingham, Alabama; as a secretary and reinstatement clerk and office manager at New Horizon Convalariam of Ocala.

Mrs. Jackson is survived by 3 sons, David Morris Jackson of Fortson, Georgia, Walter Carlisle Jackson, Keystone Heights, Florida and Douglas Ward Jackson of Elkhorn, Wisconsin; 5 grandsons, 2 granddaughters, 7 great grandsons and 3 great granddaughters; sister, Nell Ena Ganus, Gilberttown, Alabama and numerous nephews and nieces. Not only did she love her children and grandchildren, but she loved her friends which she always said she could never have too many. She had many hobbies that she enjoyed and loved life and the beauty around her. Mrs. Jackson was quick to tell you that God, her family and her church came first in her life and she lived what she believed.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2016 from noon to 1pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Ocala, FL followed by a graveside service at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Ocala, Florida.
