

Born on May 8, 1945, in Lowell, Massachusetts, Bill was the son of the late Fred and Jeanette (Jansen) Wetmore. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bill graduated from Dunedin High School and went on to build a long and dedicated career in telecommunications. He worked as a PBX installer and repairman for GTE General Telephone & Electronics, which later became Verizon, where he was known for his strong work ethic and technical skill.
On October 10, 1970, Bill married the love of his life, Joan Wetmore, with whom he shared many years of devotion, partnership, and family life.
In 2001, Bill moved to Dunnellon, Florida, where he quickly became an active and valued member of the community. He generously gave his time and talents through volunteer work, assisting with maintenance at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, serving as a boat captain at Rainbow Springs State Park, and supporting the Dunnellon Fire Department with publicity and fundraising efforts for their annual children’s Christmas party. Bill was also a proud 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council in Dunnellon, where he played an active role in charitable initiatives and fundraising.
Bill took great pride in his family and cherished every moment spent with them. He had a natural gift for conversation and was known for his friendly nature, easily striking up conversations with both friends and strangers alike.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan Wetmore; his son, Stephen Wetmore (Elena); and his grandchildren, Austin and Kayla, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his siblings, Fred Wetmore (Diane) and Jeanne Wilson (John), as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, located at 5 SE 17th Street, Ocala, Florida 34471.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Bill’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Bill will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and community. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched.
