

Monmouth Medical Center for 15 years until his retirement, died on May 15, 2017 in
Shrewsbury, New Jersey. He was 84.
Dr. Fox was a pioneer in the field of neonatology. He was a compassionate and dedicated
physician, caring not only for newborns, but for their families. He was a mentor to hundreds of
medical students, residents, and fellows over the course of his career and was as committed to
their education as he was to the care of his tiny patients.
He graduated from Union College in Schenectady, New York and received his medical degree
from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he was subsequently a
resident in pediatrics. From 1965-67, he served in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned
Corps as a Lieutenant Commander. He was stationed at the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia. Following his military service, he completed his training at Yale
University as a Fellow in Neonatology.
From 1968 to 1974, he was the Director of Neonatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.
From 1974 to 1985, he was the Director of Neonatology at the University of Kansas, where he
developed the Jaystork Program, an innovative state-wide transport program for the care of
sick newborns.
After his retirement from medicine and Monmouth Medical Center, Dr. Fox pursued his longstanding
interest in 17th century prints and earned a degree in Art History from Rutgers
University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. For 10 years he was a volunteer in the Department of
Drawings and Prints at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
Dr. Fox was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 14, 1933. He is survived by his wife of 52 years,
Barbara, his daughters Sarah Fox and Marjorie Fox, his son-in-law Jeffrey Naiman and his two
grandchildren, David Naiman and Daniel Naiman.
The funeral service will take place on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at Bloomfield-Cooper,
2130 Highway 35, Ocean, New Jersey 07712.
