Joan Himelman

Joan Himelman ( DOB October 9 1934) of Lincroft NJ passed away on May 30 2016 at the age of 81. Joan was born in Jersey City NJ. She excelled in school at Weehawken High School graduating with high honors in 1951 She obtained a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Organic Chemistry at Douglass College in 1955, and a Master’s Degree in Education from Monmouth College. She worked as an organic chemist at Pfizer, and Norda Chemical Co and was on the team that developed many new products including grape flavoring.

Joan was married to William Himelman on June 10 1956 and their 60th wedding anniversary would have been in 2 weeks.

Joan taught Math, Chemistry and Computer Science at Brookdale Community College and Holmdel High school. Joan also volunteered and served upon the Child Placement Review Board of Monmouth County for at risk children.

She was an avid reader, and was a Bronze Life Master in Bridge and she played Bridge as often as she could. She was the captain of the women's golf team in the past at Shore Oaks Country Club. Joan and William travelled extensively throughout the world and their home is decorated with art and mementos from their travels. Joan had the love of learning and had a keen mind and quick wit. She loved crossword and all types of puzzles. She was a kind, considerate and compassionate woman who was deeply loved and cherished by her family and friends. She was proud of the accomplishments of her children and especially her grandchildren and always had a way to make everyone around her feel special and at ease. She was called "Gammy' by all the grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, the Hon. William Himelman of Lincroft NJ , her son Daniel Himelman of Atlantic Highlands NJ, her daughter Carla Campbell and her husband Thomas Campbell of Allentown Pa, and her grandchildren Samantha Himelman and her husband Seth Niedermayer of Manhattan NY,Eric Himelman and his wife Lisa Himelman of Red Bank NJ , Dr Jessica Himelman of Manhattan NY, Stephen Campbell of Manhattan NY, and Robert Campbell of Allentown Pa.

A funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 1st, 2016 at 11:30m am at Bloomfield Cooper Jewish Chapel at 2130 Highway 35, Ocean NJ.
