June Chernetz, age 94, of Wayside, New Jersey, passed away on June 6, 2021. June was born June 5, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Minnie and Philip Friedman. She was predeceased by her sister Wilma S. Rosen.
June was an accomplished artist. She graduated the Philadelphia Museum School of Art and exhibited her oil paintings winning many awards. She was also a Philadelphia school art teacher and later graduated from University of Pennsylvania with a degree in occupational therapy applying her art training to art therapy.
In 1959, June moved to Ocean Township, New Jersey, where she married Irving B. Chernetz, a meteorologist at Fort Monmouth, now deceased. June loved staying at home to raise their three children, Gwyn, George, and Lynn, but still kept up with her artwork. She belonged to many art organizations and exhibited her paintings. June also played the violin and attended many concerts and the opera. In the early fifties, she was a violinist in the Philadelphia Women’s Symphony Orchestra.
She is survived by her daughters, Gwyn Abby Sondike, Lynn Amy and son-in-law Jeffrey Jacobson, her son George Benjamin and daughter-in-law Deborah Keller, the loves of her life, her grandsons, Daniel, Jeffrey, Matthew and Steven, as well as her cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Burial will be private at Beth Israel Memorial Park in Woodbridge, New Jersey.
