Morton “Morty” Kammerman, a devoted family man, longtime pharmacist, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, husband, brother and friend, passed away on February 24, 2026, in Neptune, New Jersey. He was 86.
Born on February 15, 1940, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Morty was the son of Joseph and Esther Kammerman. He attended Lincoln High School and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the Brooklyn School of Pharmacy. Morty devoted much of his professional life to serving his community as the longtime owner of Sugarmans Pharmacy in Union City, New Jersey. Known for his dedication and personal care, he built lasting relationships with generations of families.
In 1965, Morty married Judith Auerbach, and together they raised three children: Joel, Neil, and Deborah. Judith predeceased him in 1996.
In 1999, he married Sandra Feldman Felder, with whom he shared many happy years.
Known to family and friends as “Morty” or “Mort,” he was beloved for his tremendous sense of humor. With a quick wit and playful teasing spirit, he had a gift for making people laugh while showing deep loyalty and warmth to those he loved. Morty cherished time spent with family and friends. A lifelong lover of food, he was also great at grilling and took joy in sharing good meals and lively conversation.
In retirement, while living at Renaissance in Manchester, New Jersey, Morty continued to bring people together. Recognizing that many residents had no local place to attend services, he spearheaded the creation of High Holy Day services within the community, organizing everything from the location to securing a Torah and hiring a rabbi and cantor to run the services.
Morty is survived by his wife, Sandra Feldman Felder Kammerman; his children Joel and his wife Jennifer, Neil and his wife Michelle, and Deborah and her partner Walter; his cherished grandchildren Rachel, Matthew, Joshua, and Jacob; his two stepsons, David and Andy, along with their children and grandchildren; his sister Arlene Kammerman Kaufman; and his brother-in-law Arthur Auerbach.
He will be remembered for his sharp wit and generous spirit. His humor, warmth, and deep devotion to family and friends will always live on in the many lives he touched.
A Committal Service will be held at Temple Beth El Cemetery, 3351 Corlies Ave (Route 33), Neptune, NJ 07753, US, on February 27, 2026, from 11:00 am to 11:30 am.
