Penny is survived by her two sons, David Vogel of Oceanport, NJ and his wife Jeannine, and Jeffrey Vogel of Morganville, NJ and his wife Cathy. Penny’s six grandchildren, Kaitlin, Allison, Ian, Matthew, Eric and Lauren, will miss their “Nanny”. Penny is also survived by her sister, Nancy Madden of Southport, Ct. and her brother, Robert Hopp of Great Neck, NY. Penny will also be missed by her nieces, Amanda, Marisa, Dana and Jenna. Penny was predeceased by her parents George and Rosalind Hopp.
Penny also leaves behind a circle of friends whose love and devotion gave her so much joy. Penny was always willing to help her friends in any way she could, and she was so fortunate to receive this back from her friends on so many occasions. Penny’s sons were always so thankful for the love that their Mom’s friends bestowed upon her, and also felt so good hearing how her friends needed Penny as well.
Raised in Great Neck, NY, Penny graduated from Elmira College. She raised her two sons in New Haven, Connecticut, and relocated to Long Branch shortly after the birth of her oldest grandchild twenty-six years ago. As a resident of Long Branch, Penny thrived on being a part of the community and a friend to as many as she could. Penny’s time spent volunteering for the library association, the historical society, and children’s and family services defined her as the caring person she was and as someone who was always anxious to help others. Her time spent working on political campaigns in Long Branch was something that she had been passionate about ever since doing similar work in New Haven many years ago.
Services will be held on Thursday November 29 at 11:00 at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapel, 2130 Route 35 South, Ocean Township, NJ 07712. In lieu of flowers, Penny’s sons request donations to be made to the American Heart Association in recognition of their Mom’s two successful open-heart surgeries that helped her live the life that she did.
