OBITUARIO

Susan B. Ericson

7 julio , 195428 mayo , 2021

Susan B. Ericson, age 66, of Red Bank, New Jersey passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021. She was born on July 7, 1954 in Freeport, New York. Susan is survived by her husband of 42 years, Bruce; daughter Karissa L. Kudile (Jeffrey); daughter Jenna M. Reed (Kyle); son Brian A. Ericson (Kelsey Kazmac); parents Sanford and Temmie Drucker; brother Glen Drucker (Cynthy Waxman-Drucker); brother Mark Drucker (Marian); sister Lynn Drucker-Gold; grandson Bodhi Kudile; and granddaughter Lila Kudile. Mrs. Ericson was predeceased by her sister Karen Drucker in 1964 and her brother-in-law Roy Gold in 2018. After bravely confronting and contending with cancer, Susan was surrounded by her family in her final days. She passed on her own terms. Susan, who had a fantastic sense of humor and a deep passion for food could be found online on any given day writing about the latest cookbook release or sharing photos of the most recent culinary masterpiece from her husband, Bruce. A gastronome to the very end, her last post online was a guide to ordering the best hospital food – a way of sharing some of her final bits of wisdom with her loyal readers and friends. She will be fondly remembered not just by her surviving blood relatives, but also by the countless family members she affectionately collected over the years and treated as her own children – Susan had an amazing capacity for love and compassion, and a knack for finding the silver lining in every cloud, even in her own diagnosis. Susan’s passing was preceded by her black cat and familiar, Pixie, who is most definitely warming her chair, waiting on the other side. Susan is on record as saying that her second favorite job was working in a fabric store in Freeport, NY, where she taught patrons to sew and created custom alterations. Her first favorite job, of course, was being an incredible mother, raising three children alongside her husband. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 11:30 at Baron Hirsch Cemetery, 1126 Richmond Avenue, Staten Island, New York 10314 immediately followed by a burial. Please gather at the cemetery office by 11am to process to the grave together. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Susan's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.

The Ericson’s are in my thoughts and prayers. I fondly remember conversations with Susan. Learning about her careers and her words of encouragement in my creative ventures during the fun and delicious 4th-of-July- Kyle’s-Birthday-BBQ’s along the Navesink. I’ll never forget the great laughs we shared with the group especially last year when she was waiting for her hot dog to be BBQ’d by her beloved husband, Bruce.

Susan had an unparalleled aura around her that embodied positivity, love, and kindness. Even though I was an acquaintance of hers, she had a magical way about her that made one feel at ease ~ the way a home cooked meal makes you feel! ~

I’m one of the lucky ones to have met and conversed with a truly phenomenal person. May you Rest In Eternal Peace, Susan B. Ericson. You will be missed by many but will continue to live on in their hearts and Rolodex of memories. Xoxo

Susan was a special person. She was a most devoted wife and mother. I have many items in my home from her wonderful store Blackeyed Susan's Kitchen, which remind me of her light and bright spirit often! I am grateful to have known her and send the family my condolences.

Although Susan and I knew and appreciated each other as we raised our children at the UU Meetinghouse, I came to know her and connect with her more deeply as she battled her illness. This she did with incredible courage, grace and humor. I enjoyed the moments we shared--the moments between our clinical interactions--where with a few words we exchanged glimpses into each other's soul. I read her last FB post not much more than a week ago about how to get a great meal while in the hospital. Only Susan could have approached her hospitalization in this way--upbeat, clever and willing to show us all how it's done. In a case of mistaken assignment, I spent a few moments with Susan on her last day with us. I felt lucky to have seen her and to know she was in her own home, surrounded by those she loved.

Susan was my hero. Always positive, always kind. She will be missed by people who never had the honor of meeting her in person. Heaven has another cookbook junkie. Sending my love and prayers.

It was my sincere privilege to have had Susan as a friend. We shared a mutual love of cookbooks, vintage glassware, love of family and grandchildren. I will cherish our conversations and the many recipes she shared with me. When I pick our ripe tomatoes from the garden this year I will say a prayer of thanks for having had Susan in my life. Sincere condolences to her family.
