How do we measure a life well-lived? It cannot be measured in dollars and cents nor accolades and fame. Rather a life well-lived can be measured by one’s service to our Lord Jesus Christ, our family, our neighbors and community, and our country. Florence A. Osborne’s life was dedicated to the service of all. First and foremost, Florence loved the Lord and spent her life serving and praising him. In her darkest moments when she lost her precious Toni and Alda, she kept the faith, never wavering from her trust in the Lord. The love and devotion of her family is a testament to her dedication to each and every one of them. She loved them all fully and unconditionally and spent her life making each of their lives better. Florence was a loyal and trusted friend to her neighbors and community, always giving of herself to help a friend in need. A patriot in the truest sense of the word, Florence served her country by supporting her husband, Alda, a wounded, World War II veteran during and after the war and always displaying the character and citizenship of a proud American. Florence’s life was well-lived and its value unmeasurable. Florence A. Osborne was born June 13, 1920, to the late Levi and Lora Harvey, the seventh of eight children and the last living member of her family. Florence married Alda Osborne on December 29, 1940, and eight children were born to this union. Alda and Florence spent most of their life in Cyclone, WV, where they raised their family with love and devotion. Many friendships were formed in this community where Florence was always there to lend a helping hand or a shoulder to lean on in times of need, times of sorrow, or just when times were rough. Florence gave her life to Jesus at an early age and remained a devoted Christian her entire life. Church was very important part of Florence’s life; and she faithfully attended Bright Prospect Baptist Church when her beloved brother, Kenna Harvey, served as the minister for many years. Her official church membership was with the Cyclone Missionary Baptist Church at Cyclone, WV. In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alda Osborne, and her precious daughter, Toni Lisa Osborne; four sons-in-law that she loved as her own: Roger Paynter, Arnie Ratliff, Ronnie Abbott and Glen Robertson; five sisters: Bertha Phillips, May Cook, Pearle Coleman, Ernie Hash, and her best friend and baby sister, Delma Toler; three brothers: Kenna Harvey, Marvin Harvey and Alfred Harvey. Florence made her final journey and received her wings on Sunday, July 12, 2015 and leaves a loving and devoted family to carry on her bright and shining light; six devoted daughters who cared for her these last few years with love and the utmost care: Patricia Paynter of Vinton, VA, Jackie Ratliff of Cyclone, Margaret Abbott of Cyclone, Sharon Robertson of Davin, Vickie Brown and her husband, Rev. Lucian Brown of Cyclone and Jody Osborne of Cyclone; a loving son and his wife, Terry and Darlene Osborne of Cyclone; twenty grandchildren who loved and admired her above all others; thirty four great-grandchildren; and seventeen great-great grandchildren; and all those married into the family whom she welcomed and loved as her own. A special thank you and appreciation to her nurse, Selena Blevins, who treated her with kindness, dignity and loving care. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
