Jewell was born February 21, 1923, in Electra, TX, to Lee and Shirley Smith. She grew up in a Christ-centered loving home with three rowdy brothers and a beautiful baby sister. Jewell was a vivacious, fun-loving artistic woman who enjoyed the scenic vistas of Southwestern Colorado, entertaining her family and friends, cheering at Friday night football games, and singing. She was an avid artist; she loved to paint the most beautiful pictures in oil. She was a voracious reader, if there was a book close by, it was hers. We will all miss her contagious laugh and kind spirit; she was and will forever be our "Precious Jewell."
She married her forever love, Harold Edward Bettes and began a life of adventure in Western Texas with him. They traveled the world together and shared the grandest adventures. Together, they had two children, Harold Edward II and Myndi. She created a beautiful home that thrived on the people she shared it with.
Later in life, Jewell married Marvin Wesley Dennard "Mig" in the mountains of Colorado. Jewell loved the children Mig shared with her, and enjoyed being a part of their lives. Mig had three children and seven grandchildren she loved to call her own.
Jewell is survived by her children, Harold Edward Bettes II, Myndi Smith, Mark Dennard, Crayden Dennard and Luanne Bellah as well as her brothers, Bill Smith and Lonnie Smith. She has twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren and many dear nieces and nephews that stretch from the East Coast to the West Coast of this country she loved so much.
Jewell is preceded in death by her parents Shirley Walraven Smith and Lee Smith, her husbands: Harold Edward Bettes and Marvin Wesley Dennard, her brother, Robert Lee Smith and Ronda Bradford, her sister and Nick H. Smith, her son-in-law.
Jewell was a faithful member of the Eisenhower Church of Christ in Odessa, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with Alan Weakland and Mike Vestal officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
