

Betty Joe Kyees (1928-2017). Betty Kyees passed from this life to her Heavenly home on August 28, 2017 in Mansfield, TX. Betty is survived by daughters, Bertha Holzhauer and husband, Dave of Arlington, TX and Brenda Major and husband, Marshall of Odessa, four grandchildren, Scott Holzhauer of Mount Enterprise, TX, Tammy Lowrance and husband, Chad of Mansfield, Stephanie Major of Lampasas, TX and Kevin Major. She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren, Dylan Holzhauer, Brendon, Carson, and McKinley Lowrance, Adaien and Dradyn Bryant, and Samantha Major, one brother, Earnest Odell “Boots” Hopper of Abilene, TX, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Eber Kyees, brothers, John Calvin “Jake” Hopper, Woodrow Wilson “Woody” Hopper, and Tommie Lee “Tom” Hopper, sisters, Ila Faye Paine and Mary Francis Kiser. Betty was born in Marshall County, OK to Nellie Belle Mayfield and Earney Lee Hopper on March 17, 1928. Betty married Samuel Eber Kyees on January 15, 1946. They moved to Odessa not long after that. Samuel was employed in the oilfield and Betty was employed as a nursery worker for 30+ years at Sherwood Baptist Church. After the death of Sam in 1987 Betty enjoyed spending time traveling with the senior adult groups from Temple Baptist Church and First Baptist Church. She was a loving friend, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and enjoyed cooking for family and friends, quilting with her quilting ladies from Sherwood Baptist Church, and working in her yard. A family visitation time will be held Saturday, September 2nd, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home from 6-8 pm. A celebration of Betty’s life will be held Sunday, September 3rd at Sherwood Baptist Church at 3 pm with Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank Chaplain Jon Mark Fowler of Hospice Plus in Mansfield, TX, and their nursing staff, as well as Comfort Care for the continuous care nursing staff who cared for Betty during her last Days.
