Billy Glenn McCombs

Billy Glenn “Jiggs” McCombs was born August 18, 1921 in Fisher County, Texas. He passed away May 4, 2014 in Sterling City, Texas. He married Geraldine Elizabeth Wright on August 3, 1945 in Spur, Texas. She passed away on November 21, 1997. They had been married for 52 years.

He married Mildred Stevens Kidd on March 23, 2002 in Odessa, Texas.

“Jiggs” retired from El Paso Natural Gas Company after 31 years of service.

He served in Company F, 134th Infantry and 35th Division of the US Army during World War II. He was a POW in Germany for eight months and was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.

He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Gardendale, Goldsmith Masonic Lodge #1276 and is a 32nd degree Mason; Friendship Chapter #1008 of the Order of the Eastern Star Veterans of Foreign Wars.

“Jiggs” was preceded in death by his father Alonzo McCombs, mother Martha Ann Stevens McCombs, three brothers Raymond, Elmer and W.A. McCombs; two sisters Dorothy Smith and Allene Cook and a great-granddaughter Wyaema Mann.

He is survived in death by two sons Don McCombs of Artesia, New Mexico and Jack (Vickie) McCombs of De Leon; two daughters Glynneth (Mike) Mathis of New Braunfels and Jerri (Mike) McCutchen of Sterling City, Texas. Three Step-sons Eddie, Johnny and Kevin Kidd all of Odessa, Texas. Eight Grandchildren, nine Step-Grandchildren, twenty seven Great-Grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services are scheduled for Wednesday, May 7, 2014

at 10 AM at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Reverend Terry Easley Officiating.

Services are entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
