

She was born July 16, 1943, to Jack and Billie Jean (Albertson) Steele in Levelland, TX. She received her BA from the University of Texas at Arlington and her Masters in Psychology from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa. Carol was named Texas Outstanding Woman of the Year from the Business and Professional Women's Association. Carol was a professor for ten years at Dine University in Tsaile, Arizona on the Navajo Reservation.
She is preceded in death by her father.
She is survived by her mother Billie Jean Steele of Odessa; her sons, George Robert “Bob” Buchanan and wife, Peggy of Mountain View, CA, and James David Buchanan and wife, Judith of Albuquerque, NM; her daughters, Lydia Cummings and husband Noble of Pflugerville, TX; and Leann Miller of Battle Mountain, NV; sisters, Betty Jane Steele of Lubbock, TX, and Norma Jean Niece and husband, Terry of Odessa; and seven grandchildren, Michael and Mathew Miller, Brandon and Dustin Cummings, Ashley and Connor Smith, and Christina Buchanan.
Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, 2012, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 401 E 42nd St in Odessa, pot luck afterwards.
