He was born June 22, 1948 in Odessa, Texas to Charles “Pat” Ellithorpe and Wanda Mahaffey Ellithorpe.
A native Odessan, he lived in many places, but always returned to his hometown. He attended Permian High School. Charlie owned several businesses including Area Automation and Ellithorpe, Inc. He retired from Shell Oil Company and went on to build and operate Andrews Storage.
Charlie was one of a kind! If you ever met him, you know that to be true. You would always see him with a cigar in his mouth. He loved to make people laugh with his unique sense of humor! He was sarcastic, generous, loving, 100% honest, and a storyteller, but most importantly a dad, grandpa and friend. He cherished his girls and encouraged them to be independent and strong. He loved his grandkids with all his heart and was a friend that made you feel like family.
He is survived by his daughters Beth and husband David Gibson, Amy and husband Rex Scown; grandchildren Emily and husband Cameron Hamer, Zach Williams, Natalie Scown and John Scown; niece Cory Ellithorpe-Hull; nephews Craig Ellithorpe and Brandon Ellithorpe; and his daughters’ mother and lifelong friend, Janice Graham, as well as many close friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Michael Ellithorpe.
Thanks goes out to his caregivers at The Courtyards and Heart to Heart Hospice. The care they provided him is greatly appreciated. Memorial donations may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice.
We will always love and remember our dad who cared so deeply for us.
