David was a proud graduate of Permian High School, Class of 1989. Following high school, he began his career as an electrical helper with Saulsbury Industries. Through dedication and hard work, he advanced to become a master electrician and furthered his expertise in I&E Automation, a field he was deeply passionate about. Over his career, he worked with several companies including K&S Electric, Oxy Permian, ConocoPhillips, Targa, Citation, NTACT Operations, and Atlas.
In 1986, David met the love of his life, Mari (Maria) Marquez. They were married on November 25, 1989, and shared 36 wonderful years together. They built a life centered on love, family, and lasting memories.
David is survived by his loving wife, Mari Marquez; his daughter and son-in-law, Gabriella and Jeremiah Soto; and his cherished grandsons, Jayce, Zachary, and Jeremy Soto; his mother-in-law, Maria Hernandez; his siblings: Chris (Julie) Marquez, Monica (Matthew) Gerard, and Greg (Letty) Marquez; sister-in-law Trish Marquez; brothers-in-law Manuel (Michelle) Hernandez Jr., Carlos (Maribel) Hernandez, Diego Hernandez, and Guillermo (Lena) Hernandez; sister-in-law Rocio (Miguel) Martinez; along with many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Paula Marquez; his brother, Charlie Marquez; and his father-in-law, Manuel Hernandez Sr.
David had a deep love for fishing, hunting and camping—anywhere he could put his toes in the water was where he wanted to be. He enjoyed experimenting with new recipes on the grill or smoker and found peace in taking long drives while listening to music or his favorite Dave Ramsey podcasts. He was an avid traveler, always seeking his next adventure. He attended many live concerts, including Darius Rucker, The Eagles, George Strait, Chris Stapleton, Metallica and many others. As soon as David clocked out to begin a vacation, he was ready to kick back and relax, often saying, “It’s five o’clock somewhere.” One of his most memorable trips was to California in 2024 with Monica and Matthew, where he enjoyed wine tasting, fulfilled his wish of seeing the giant redwood trees, and marked off three more MLB ballparks off his list. When asked how he was doing, he would often reply, “Better than I deserve”. He was known for his banter and sense of humor with those around him.
David was also a devoted sports fan and proudly supported his favorite teams—the UT Longhorns, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Texas Rangers—rarely missing a game and always cheering them on.
Above all, David cherished time with his family. Whether cooking meals together, enjoying game nights, or playing on the floor with his grandsons, those moments meant the most to him.
Thank you for all the prayers, kind words, and love shown to us during this difficult time. Your presence, messages, generosity, and acts of compassion have meant more to our family than words can express.
We are truly grateful for the outpouring of love as we honor and remember David’s life.
