Dorothy (Dottie) White

Visitation for Dorothy (Dottie) White, 86, of Odessa, will be at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Home on Sunday, April 3rd from 4-6 pm. Services will be held Monday, April 4th at 1pm in the chapel at the funeral home. Burial will be immediately following at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Dottie passed away March 30, 2011 in the Compass Hospice Care Unit at MCH in Odessa after a brief illness. She was born on January 11, 1925 in Stamford, Texas to John Garland and Artie Mae Swint who both preceded her in death.

The Swint family moved to Hobbs, New Mexico around 1938. Dottie graduated from Hobbs High School and then went to work for Western Union and eventually Daniels Insurance Company. In 1971, Dottie married W.R. (Bill) White and moved to Odessa, Texas. Bill started his own business J&W Services in Midland. Dottie worked for Murphy & Rochester Insurance in Odessa and later retired from the insurance business. During their married life they owned multiple vacation homes in Ruidoso, New Mexico and built their dream home there in 2002. Health issues forced them to return to Odessa. Bill preceded her in death in 2007.

Dottie loved music and played the organ and piano for various churches throughout her life. She was an avid needle pointer, loved to read, play tennis, golf and enjoyed water sports. She was presently a member of the First Baptist Church of Odessa and though homebound, she faithfully watched their Sunday morning program on TV and supported the church.

Dottie is survived by her son Ross Ritz and a sister Pat Smith. A brother George Swint and a niece Debra Worley preceded her in death. She is also survived by two nieces, Denise Dean, Carol Thomas, a great nephew Trey Thomas, sister-in-law Sally White and her three sons, Andy, Joey, Bobby White and their families.

Dottie was deeply loved by her entire family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Odessa, Building Fund.
