Floy Evelyn Lewallen, 101 years of age, a long-time resident of Odessa passed away Monday, April 20, 2015 in San Angelo. She was born June 28, 1913 in Limestone County, TX. She was 2nd of 7 children born to Ollie and Jack Rascoe. She graduated from Fife school. She married R. L. “Bob” Lewallen on November 15, 1930 in Brady, TX. Their three children, James Robert, Helen and Evelyn were born in Brady, and they lived there for 13 years, then moving to Menard, TX for a few years. They moved to Odessa in 1950, which was their primary residence for 56 years. Bob had a sand and gravel business, Floy was a homemaker and seamstress. She began making draperies and was noted for her window treatments. Floy was very active, loved working in the yard and flower beds. She had a good neighbor and friend, with another friend bowled in the Women’s League at Busby Bowling Lanes for many years. They won many trophies, Floy being the frequent recipient of the “Congeniality Award”. She took up golfing at the age of 70. She and her daughter, Evelyn, played many rounds at Sunset Country Club. Floy strictly adhered to the adage, “Do not think more highly of yourself than you ought” for herself and her children. Evelyn had always told her, that if you hit a good shot in golf, you should enjoy it. One day Floy played one hole really well, and Evelyn was applauding her. She actually let herself enjoy having made several good shots. On the next hole, as Floy teed up and swung, she whiffed the ball, she said “I knew it, pride goeth before a fall”. Floy was very disappointed that she did not get to play after she turned 90.
Floy was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, 3 sisters, her husband and son ; & (4) grandchildren, Kathleen Lewallen Cheri Lafrentz, James Campbell and Cindy Lafrentz.
She is survived by her daughters, Helen Fullerton of San Angelo, Evelyn and John Lafrentz of Odessa; (1) brother,(1) sister; (1) sister-in-law. Floy leaves (6) grandchildren, Jean Marie Todd, Susan Spieker, Russell Campbell, Kim Martin, Ann Lafrentz & Shannon Lewallen; (15) great-grandchildren, & (9) great-great-grandchildren.
Floy would not be considered a Bible scholar, but she was a diligent reader of God’s word. She was a faithful Christian and Jesus may well have welcomed her with these words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
