Gloria was born in Boerne, Texas on July 12, 1933 to the late Jose Tijerina and Olivia Ortega.
She was the kind of woman that in good times and bad times she always had a smile to share with everyone she met.
Growing up she moved around with her parents to work in the fields whether if it was cotton or orchards.
After meeting and marrying her husband Tomas and they moved to Odessa she worked as a steam presser for Texas industrial for 17 years when she retired she became the Wela Everyone wish they had in her spare time she love to embroider and early in the mornings she would be outside with her plants and flowers caring for them the way she cared for her family she was also an amazing cook her best dish was her Menudo and her famous banana pudding. But she was also very proud of her married name “Menchaca!” And loved her kids with an unconditional love and never asking for anything in return
Gloria is survived by her children, Isabel Luna of Odessa, Texas. Sylvia M. Menchaca (spouse Nohemi Chavez- Menchaca) of Odessa. Texas and son, Frank Menchaca of Odessa, Texas. Her brother, Roy Tijerina (spouse Linda Tijerina) of Odessa, Texas. Her sister, Olga Perez of Amarillo, Texas and Angie (spouse Fernando) of San Antonio, Texas.7 grandchildren, 14 great- grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Gloria is preceded in death by her spouse, Tomas R. Menchaca. Her parents, Jose and Olivia O. Tijerina. Son, Richard Menchaca and sister, Adela T Menchaca.
Tomas Menchaca, Richard Ramos, Augustine Menchaca, Armando Rodriguez, Alejandro Rodriguez and Joshua Luna will serve as pallbearers.
Gloria will be in state on Saturday, May 15, 2021 from 9- 5pm also on Sunday, May 16, 2021 from 9- 5pm. Visitation will be held at Odessa Funeral home on Monday, May 17, 2021 from 5pm-9pm (rosary will be at 7pm). Mass will be held on Tuesday May 18, 2021 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at 10am. Burial to follow at Ector County Cemetery.
