Jack Calvin Frost was born on November 8, 1938 in Pecos, Texas to Jim and Anice Frost. He was the oldest of three boys. When he was a young child the family moved to Monahans, Texas. It was there that Jack accepted Christ as his Savior at a young age. His faith and love for Jesus was the center of everything he did in life.
When Jack was a teenager the family moved to Odessa to expand the family business, Frost Bread. He attended Odessa High School where he met his future bride, Colene Watson. After they graduated, they headed off to different colleges, but absence makes the heart grow fonder. A year later they married on January 25, 1959. Colene returned to Baylor with Jack where their first child, Hayden was born a year later. Jack and Colene remained Baylor Bear fans throughout their lives.
They returned to Odessa soon after Hayden joined the family and Jack soon stepped into the role of president at the bakery. Over the next few years, two more children were added to the family, Mark and Crystal. The family attended Crescent Park Baptist Church where Jack was a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Jack’s love for people was lived out in the community. He was a member of the Lions Club, the Chuck Wagon Gang, and Gideons International in his retirement years. After his years of working at the bakery, he undertook a job as a founding member of the group that started the West Texas Food Bank in 1985.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed summer camping trips and attending Paisano Baptist Encampment with the family. Jack had grown up going to Paisano and served on the board for many years. If you drank coffee at breakfast at the eating shed, more than likely Jack was one of the people serving it to you.
Jack had a heart for missions and even served for a time on the Missions Committee for the Baptist General Convention of Texas. After the children were grown, he and Colene were volunteers with the Mission Service Corp. with the Southern Baptist Convention. They traveled around West Texas to speak in churches about opportunities for people to be involved in missions and about the importance of sharing the love of Jesus and His gift of salvation.
He loved his wife and family dearly. He was kind, generous, loved people and loved God. He will be deeply missed but kept close in our hearts.
Jack is survived by his three children James Hayden Frost, John Mark Frost, and Crystal Frost Rogers, son-in-law Keith Warren Rogers, four grandchildren: Haylee Jo Oliver, Jacob Neal Frost, David Bruce Rogers and Elizabeth Ann Rogers, two great-grandchildren: Harper and Hollen Oliver, brother Jim Frost, sister-in-law Emily Frost and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 from 6-8 PM at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 10 AM at Northside Baptist Church followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the West Texas Food Bank at wtxfoodbank.org, Gideons International at gideons.org, or Paisano Baptist Encampment at paisanoencampment.org.
