Jack was born October 25, 1923, in Hugo, OK, to the late Samuel Edward and Ila Verna Rhodes. He learned to weld at an early age, and then entered the military, serving in the U.S. Army from May 1943, until February 28, 1946. During World War II, his welding talent landed him in the 503rd Ordinance Heavy Maintenance Tank Company, serving in the European Theatre.
After the war, he returned to Penwell where he, his father, and two brothers owned Rhodes Welding Company, which later became Rhodes Operating.
Jack married Kay Brewer on June 21, 1948, in Odessa and began 65 years of marriage. They had four children, Becky, Eddie, Kim, and Glen.
Hunting and fishing were some of Jack’s favorite pastimes in his earlier years; while more recently he became an avid student of the bible after having accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior.
In addition to his wife, Kay, Jack is survived by his two sons Glen and Eddie Rhodes of Odessa; daughter Kim Vitale of Solon, OH; sister Nita Hooper of Crane; brothers Coy Rhodes of Snyder, and Lowell Rhodes of Penwell; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
