

He was born August 29, 1928, to Will Henry and Katie (Mauritzen) Richey in Gladewater, TX. He married his wife, Virginia Louise Jordan, on December 24, 1949, in Gladewater.
He worked in the oilfield as a roughneck and a driller most of his life. He liked working morning tower as a derrick hand because that ensured that he always had a job. In retirement, he enjoyed his grandkids and great-grandkids; and enjoyed pulling them in the red wagon. He enjoyed attending Sunday school at Crossroads Fellowship. James was also fond of old westerns and country music.
He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Louise Richey of Odessa; sons, Jim Richey and wife, Debbie of Hobbs, NM; and Don Richey of Carbondale, CO; daughter, Ginger Horrell and husband, Ben of Odessa; brother, Pete Richey and wife, Jeanette of Tyler, TX; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Open visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 5, 2012, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. David Newton officiating.
