

Joe was born February 14, 1927, in Ira, TX, to Pete and Alta Lois (Eubanks) Holley. The family moved to a number of small towns in the West Texas oilfields until finally settling in Odessa December 8, 1941. He was a graduate of Odessa High School in 1945. He played football for the Broncos and remained a supporter for OHS all his life.
He served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II, and afterwards attended Texas Western University in El Paso, graduating in 1951, with a BA in English, and minored in History. He was also a member of the football team and played in two Sun Bowl games, and was on the first Texas team to ever play in Honolulu; a great memory for Joe and all his teammates. He was selected on the coaches’ all-conference team in 1950.
Joe married Johnnie Alyne Gold on October 25, 1952, and had many wonderful years together. They had three daughters that he loved so dearly, Lesa Elaine, Nancy Jaye, and Kathy Lea. He had two wonderful granddaughters Jessica Jaye Campbell, and McKaylie Kaye Campbell, and one great-grandson Joe Austin Martinez, and two great-granddaughters Mason Jaye Martinez and Allie Hope Campbell.
Joe was in oilfield sales for 50 years; retiring with Southwest Oilfield Products in 1992. He loved his work and had many friends in the oilfield in Lake Charles, LA, and Texas.
Joe became a Christian in 1953, and was a member of 6th & Jackson Church of Christ. He was an optimistic gentleman who loved the Lord. He was loyal to Him, his wife, family, and his schools, OHS and Texas Western (UTEP).
His parents, wife, and a brother Leon Holley all preceded him in death.
Survivors include his daughters Lesa Elaine Phillips and husband, John of St. Joseph, MI; Nancy Jaye Campbell of Ft. Stockton, TX; and Kathy Lea Holley and husband, Thomas Fleming of Odessa; brother Weldon Holley and wife, Frances of Italy, TX; sister Doris Eller of Marble Falls, TX; grandchildren Jessica and McKaylie Campbell, and great-grandchildren Joe and Mason Martinez, and Allie Campbell.
Family visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Monday, July 21, 2014, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home, with Graveside services following at 2:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Bro. Phillip Gold officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Pecos County Memorial Hospital Hospice, 387 I-10 Svc Rd, Ft Stockton, TX 79735.
