Joyce was born in Vegreville, Alberta Canada to William and Eudokia Basaraba and grew up on the family farm with two brothers and six sisters. While teaching in Lavoy, AB, she met Goodie, the man she would marry, move with, and spend over 60 years in Odessa, Texas. While she raised their three daughters, she was very active in her church and taught kindergarten. She loved little kids! That made her a fun grandmother, too.
When Joyce was 47, she went back to school and received her nursing degree. Being a nurse had always been a dream of hers. Her graduation led her to several years working at Medical Center Hospital. After they retired, Goodie and Joyce traveled to Ireland, Scotland, and many spots across the US.
Joyce moved to Austin for the last six years of her life. She lived in the Buckner Retirement Community in her own apartment. Most days she could be found having lunch with several of her friends or playing tile rummy, train, or bingo. There is a special group of ladies there that will miss her dearly.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, sisters and her husband, Melvin (Goodie) Goodgame. She is survived by her three daughters: Cathie Anderson (Jerry), Colleen Pruet (Madison) and Alison Tucker; five grandchildren: Zachary Anderson, Chris Pruet (Katie), and Josh Anderson (Kelly), Savanna Tucker, and Harrison Tucker; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Monday, April 10, 2023, at 2:00 pm
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital
