Kenneth Dale Rowland passed from this earth on October 11, 2021, in Odessa, Texas. Ken was born in Jones County on a farm near Anson, Texas, on October 29, 1934. Directly after graduation, he enlisted in the Army and was a courier while he was in Korea, traveling extensively throughout Japan and Korea. Following Mary Gwynette Bean Perkins to West Texas, they were married on September 11, 1958. He worked for the Post Office for nine years. Ken’s next employment was with Merdian Oil, working thirty years as a cathodic protection engineer. He was an active member of the Gardendale Church of Christ. Ken was a member of Water Color Horizons, Odessa Art Association, and he accepted the honor of being a signature Member of American Plains Artist in 1984. He also received the artist of the year award in 2019 from the American Heritage of Odessa. Many of his paintings are in private collections in the United States, Germany, and Japan. Ken always felt blessed to have this talent from God. He loved sharing this talent with his friends and students. Ken and Mary have two daughters Gwyneth Schaeffer and Deema Neagle; four grandchildren Blake Justin Byrd, Rachel Nicol Purdy and her husband Aaron, Brandy Lynn Blocker and her husband Jarrod, and Darriane Colbie Schaeffer; and five great grandchildren Joseph Purdy, Avery Blocker, Bristol Blocker, Mackinzie Purdy, and Ryland Kenneth Purdy. The Celebration of Ken’s life will be held at the Gardendale Church of Christ on October 16, 2021 at 2:00pm. Ken will be buried at Swans Chapel Cemetery, Jones County Texas on November 6, 2021.
