Margaret "Mug" Owens

Margaret A. Owens, a long-time resident of Odessa TX, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2016. She was born on August 16th, 1934 in Fayetteville AR. Her parents were Charles and Ann Kitchel. She also had two sisters, Anna Marie and Lillian Adele, who lovingly called her the family nickname “Mug”. Her mother, Ann Morsani Kitchel, was from one of the founding families of Tontitown, AR. The Morsani family emigrated from Italy. Margaret graduated from Fayetteville High School in Fayetteville NC and later moved to California with her first husband, Troy Brown, where she attended cosmetology school and raised their four children.

Margaret later married James Owens and moved to Odessa and devoted herself to her family life and friends. She enjoyed reading books and watching movies…especially love stories. She had a special way about her that people loved; she never met a stranger. They could always count on her big heart and listening ear.

She will be missed by her two surviving sisters, Anna Selders and Dell Hougland, her wonderful friends, especially her very close friend, Nita Kennedy, who was always there when she needed her, her children, Shelley Smith, Jackie Eaton, Tracy Brown, her daughter-in-law Carrie, Lee Clark and son-in-law Kevin. She will also be missed by Kathy Brown, who was like a daughter to her. They all loved and cherished their mother deeply.

In addition to her immediate family, she will be missed by her family with James Owens, whom she loved like her own. These include Pam Whitmore, Valerie Lowe and Jeanette Owens.

She is survived by fourteen grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews and relatives from both the Brown and Holt families. She is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one granddaughter, Desirae Gray, and one great grandchild, Trevor Brown.

The memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Disabled Veterans of America.
