Marjorie Halbrook

Marjorie Halbrook (known to family and friends as “SITTO” which is Arabic for Grandmother) is gone from this life but NEVER forgotten! Marjorie passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 5, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She had been declining in health the last two years. She fought this battle with fierce tenacity but always told us the outcome was in God’s hands. She was a woman of faith and KNEW she would ultimately end up in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Marjorie was born June 1, 1929 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Christine and James Nadir. She was one of eight children. The last semester of her senior year, her family moved to El Paso. She graduated from El Paso High School. It was in El Paso that she met this good-looking army man named Robert Halbrook. She and Robert along with her little sister Millie and Robert’s army buddy Larry, all eloped and had a double wedding in Las Cruses, New Mexico July 4, 1950. Needless to say, Marjorie and Millie’s parents weren’t too happy and later gave them a church wedding. But their strong love lasted almost 69 years. It set an example of what true love and lasting marriage should be.

Marge and Bob lived in Fort Worth and later moved to Odessa in 1957. It was there they settled roots and raised a family. She worked at Allied Finance and Southwestern Bell Telephone. She loved cooking, crocheting scrubbers, square dancing, playing bingo, being a “pink lady” at Medical Center, time at the lake place and most of all, anything and everything family.

Her years of love left a wake of amazing memories that will sustain us all until we meet again. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister. She is survived by her husband of almost 69 years, Robert Halbrook, daughter Donna Braden and her husband Michael Braden, daughter Carol Steen and her husband Kevin Steen, grandchildren Tina Wortham and her husband Chris, Seth Braden, Brandon Steen and his wife Erin, Misty Alley and her husband Sean, her beloved great-grandchildren Megan Hallman, Hunter Milhollen, Paisley Alley and Piper Alley, a sister Helen Aber from New Orleans, a sister Virginia Aziz from El Paso and a sister Diana Valtr from Frisco, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Thank you for the love and prayers. A special thank you to Hospice of Odessa for the help, love and guidance during this trying time. And thank you to Visiting Angels.

Visitation will be Friday, March 8, 2019, 5pm-7pm at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Services will be Saturday, March 9, 2019, 10:00am at Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1415 N. Grandview Ave. in Odessa. Catered lunch will be provided for the family at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hospice of Odessa or Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Odessa.
