January 2, 1938 - August 31, 2024
O.T. slipped away on Saturday morning while talking to his daughter and wife. It might have been the first quiet thing he ever did. He was born in San Antonio to Tomas Anthony and Olga Elizabeth Garza. God broke the mold that day. O.T. grew up in El Paso, in a time of frugality, hard work and gallows humor. He attended Stephen F. Austin High School, The University of Texas El Paso, Baylor Medical School, UNM and UT Galveston.
He was a Sigma Chi, served in the U.S. Air Force, and is a proud Marine- he always said you never stop being a Marine.
Dr. Garza was a self-professed "blue collar" doctor and practiced orthopaedic surgery for almost 50 years. He was an excellent physician and helped countless people, made lifelong friends and added to every life he touched (you probably learned something you never needed to know). It was the perfect profession as he always had a captive audience of patients who couldn't run away.
He was unforgettable.
He is survived by his wife, Jane, who is mad at him for leaving her with a mess. He leaves his children, Trent Wolf and his wife Susie; Blaine Wolf; Tomas Garza and his wife Cindy; Molly Garza, and Anna Mari Lilja. He also leaves his grandchildren, Mateo and Levi Garza and their mother, Andrea Myhre, and many beloved Cook, Griffin, Hammond, Martin and Simms family members. He leaves his church, cherished friends and all the people he talked to in gas stations, auto stores, airports, restaurants and elevators.
If you were loved by O.T., it was a noisy bear hug of a love. It was filled with cuss words, stories, more stories, humor and a genuine interest in you, as a person.
The number of words he spoke in his life are only exceeded by the size of his heart and his genuine love for his family, friends and country. He is gone, but never will be forgotten.
